Designed as an interactive evening, attendees will hear from our panel and have the chance to canvass the issues they want to discuss. We will ask three investment professionals from different backgrounds about their views on markets, and advice on the various approaches available to young investors.
The panel includes Henry Botha, a professional investment consultant, Michael Whitrow, a property expert, and Chris Hooper, an accountant working with business start-ups.
About the speakers:
Henry Botha, Founding partner, Higgins Botha
Henry Botha is a founding partner at Higgins Botha, Henry has conducted financial management training courses on behalf of corporate clients (including Hills Industries and Boeing), government departments (including the Federal Department of Finance and Administration) and educational institutions (including The University of South Australia).
Henry completed a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Natal and Master of Business Administration at Cape Town University. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. As a founding partner at Higgins Botha, he has been involved in accountancy, finance and management consulting for most of his career.
He has also undertaken financial benchmarking studies and reviews for numerous clients including Bedford Industries.
In addition to his work at Mt Eliza, Henry has lectured for the Australian Institute of Company Directors and The University of Adelaide, Graduate School of Business. He has presented training courses in Thailand, and lectured in both Singapore and China.
His areas of specialty include financial management, benchmarking and financial management training.
Henry completed a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Natal and Master of Business Administration at Cape Town University. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
Chris Hooper, CEO, Accodex
Chris Hooper is an accounting futurist and CEO of Accodex. He is passionate about entrepreneurship and in his 10 years in the accounting industry he has worked with a diverse range of start-up and high growth companies.
Chris' education started at The South Australian Institute of Business and Technology where he was awarded a Diploma of Business.
Since then he has gone on to obtain a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of South Australia majoring in Accounting and a minoring in Applied Finance, a Graduate Diploma in Chartered Accounting with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and a Diploma of Management through the Australian Institute of Management as part of the Young Business Leaders Program. He's now finishing of his MBA at UniSA where he also teaches Global Issues for Accounting.
During his university studies he took a job at a mid-tier accounting firm in Adelaide. He spent two years in business advisory, providing full service administration and compliance services to his clients. His passion for investment markets would take him into a superannuation specialty. In this role he worked in the areas of compliance and administration and advice for self-managed superannuation funds.
Chris is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has previously held an honorary board position on The South Australian Council of Social Services: Youth Business Roundtable committee. He was one of the co-founders of The Startup Club and also held an executive treasury board position within the SAUCNA Inc for four years. He is also on the boards of Future Accountants Network and Startup Adelaide.
Michael Whitrow, Principal and Director, RealTeam Pty Ltd
Michael Whitrow is the principal and director at RealTeam Pty Ltd, Michael has a strong focus on property acquisition, using 'buyer agency' techniques, negotiation and effective contract drafting. He has an extensive and long-standing experience in most aspects of property, including residential, commercial and industrial sales and acquisition, limited partnerships, funding, subdivisions and development.
Graduating from the University of Adelaide, Michael has over 20 years experience in the Real Estate industry.
Since 2003, Michael has built a business to work across California and Australia – to act as ‘purchaser’s agent’ on behalf of various clients. He is a property specialist with broad-based skills and experience, Michael is focused on helping clients harness property toward realising their ambitions and aspirations.
In the past, Michael was a lecturer in Property Services with TAFE, equipping students to qualify for State registration as real estate practitioners. He also built the 'Red Jacket Course' salesperson training program, which enabled salespeople to better focus on productive activities.
