Well, according to a recent SEEK Employment Report, March 2022 had the highest number of job advertisements in SEEK’s 25-year history, noting job ads increased in 26 of the 28 industry categories.
This is confirmed by the March 2022 National Skills Commission Internet Vacancy Index (IVI) report where job advertisements are currently at their highest level since 2008 (282,400 IVI total job advertisements). The IVI, not to be confused with ABS data for recorded job vacancies, is based on a count of online job advertisements lodged on SEEK, CareerOne and Australian JobSearch during the month. ABS Job Vacancies Survey data confirms the actual level of job vacancies in February 2022 was ~86% higher than in February 2020 at 423,500.
Acknowledging the time lag in ABS publications, its population data released in March 2022 (covering the 12 month period to 30 September 2021) confirms Australian net overseas migration (migration arrivals minus migration departures) was -67,300 and the annual natural increase (births minus deaths) was 136,200. For context and looking back 15 years, net overseas migration for the year ended 30 September 2006 was 137,700 persons and the natural increase recorded for the same period was 131,800.
